What is Probe ?

A probe is having 5 components listed below

Protecting Wear plate

Piezo electric crystal

Damping block

Electrical matching circuit

Socket

Housing

Housing

The protection layer for the whole body is housing. The material which is used here may be aluminum, plastic, steel or fiber glass material.

Socket

The socket is designed to mount for lemo cable. It can send some electric pulse to the piezo electric crystal and also and receive some electric pulse by the piezo electric crystal. when it connected with the UFD (ultrasonic flaw detector).

Electric matching circuit

The purpose of electrical matching circuit to give correct level of electric pulse to the piezo electric. When positive and negative supply connected to the piezo electric crystal. so that it can vibrate to produce ultrasonic frequency.

Damping block

The Damping block absorbs the vibration from piezo electric element which can affect the electrical matching circuit. So that the circuit can be protected from the vibration. Generally, it is made up of rubber material. Also, it can cover all the area around the electric circuit.

Piezo electric crystal

The main part of this probe is piezo electric crystal. Because it can able to convert the electrical energy into mechanical Energy. Also vice versa where the mechanical energy is turn back into electrical energy. When is get some amount of electrical energy means it tend to vibrate in high frequency. It can be more than 1000000Hz for our reference we can understand like 10L Hz of Vibration cycle per sec.

Protecting Wear plate

The protecting wear plate is like a material able to resist wear mean it is used as a shoe for the probe. Generally, it can be a thin layer of rubber, polymer resin, or glass fiber material. Which can able to protect the probe crystal layer.
